Our StoryTHE practicum began in the summer of 2009. Its founder- Ric Sechrest- while interviewing and researching a yet unreleased documentary, found himself in need of a production company that could be base camp for the film. As he dug a bit deeper he realized his self prescribed attention disorder had nearly derailed the filmmaking process. He had the artistic vision but needed collaboration and a development ground. Today THE practicum strives to bring in the ingredients and turn out results. What once was raw and discombobulated can now be bold and zestful. THE practicum is a place where artists and residents can create and enjoy meaningful work that will involve, inspire, and impact people.Over the next 6 months, THE practicum went through a period of intense planning. Providing invaluable advice was the National Advisory Board- a panel of leaders from across the country with heaps of experience in theatre start-ups and management. The organization surfaced from this period with clear focus and determination. In 2011, THE practicum will be unleashing its inaugural season with a ten minute play festival of new works. Please see THE Opportunities page for details. Also launching in 2011 will be THE practicum’s first education and outreach programs. They include the Artists in Schools Program, which places working artists in classrooms; Student Apprenticeships, which give students a chance to work alongside industry professionals; and the Sunday Saloon Play Reading Series, which is presented free of charge on a semi-monthly basis. We hope you'll take some time to get to know us better and to let us get to know you.
